TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION
Get ready for a fun, hands-on adventure into the world of fish and freshwater science!
Education is the key to protecting healthy fisheries and making sure people across Minnesota can continue enjoying the lakes, rivers, and fish we all love for generations to come. And the best way to learn… is by seeing it all up close!
We’re heading to Waterville for a special visit to the Waterville State Fish Hatchery, where kids and their parents will get a behind-the-scenes look at how fish are raised and prepared to be stocked into lakes across Minnesota.
During our private tour, kids will get to:
See muskie swimming in tanks or even eggs in the incubation battery depending on the time of year
Explore the education room, which features live fish in aquariums along with preserved fish and mammals
Learn about the aquatic environment and how fisheries biologists take care of our lakes and rivers
Watch a demonstration of how scientists set trap nets in the lake to study fish populations
This is also the perfect opportunity for curious kids to ask questions! Ever wondered:
How do fish hatcheries raise baby fish?
How do fish get stocked into lakes?
How do scientists know how many fish live in a lake?
Our tour guide will be there to answer all the curious questions kids can think of and help them discover just how fascinating fisheries science really is.
If your child loves fishing, animals, science, or just exploring the outdoors, this is going to be an exciting and educational day they won’t forget!
