TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION

Get ready for a fun, hands-on adventure into the world of fish and freshwater science!

Education is the key to protecting healthy fisheries and making sure people across Minnesota can continue enjoying the lakes, rivers, and fish we all love for generations to come. And the best way to learn… is by seeing it all up close!

We’re heading to Waterville for a special visit to the Waterville State Fish Hatchery, where kids and their parents will get a behind-the-scenes look at how fish are raised and prepared to be stocked into lakes across Minnesota.

During our private tour, kids will get to:

  • See muskie swimming in tanks or even eggs in the incubation battery depending on the time of year

  • Explore the education room, which features live fish in aquariums along with preserved fish and mammals

  • Learn about the aquatic environment and how fisheries biologists take care of our lakes and rivers

  • Watch a demonstration of how scientists set trap nets in the lake to study fish populations

This is also the perfect opportunity for curious kids to ask questions! Ever wondered:

  • How do fish hatcheries raise baby fish?

  • How do fish get stocked into lakes?

  • How do scientists know how many fish live in a lake?

Our tour guide will be there to answer all the curious questions kids can think of and help them discover just how fascinating fisheries science really is.

If your child loves fishing, animals, science, or just exploring the outdoors, this is going to be an exciting and educational day they won’t forget!

Come explore the heart of Central Minnesota’s agricultural landscape with us on a fun, educational farm tour! This hands-on experience is perfect for children and adults alike, offering a unique opportunity to learn about farming, food production, and the hard work that goes into raising cattle.

About the Tour:
Pleasurewood Farm is a natural, grass-fed beef farm, and this exclusive tour will give you a behind-the-scenes look at farm life. You and your child will have the chance to meet a variety of farm animals and experience a truly immersive visit.

Throughout the tour, you'll get to:

  • Visit and interact with farm animals, from cows to chickens and more.

  • Learn about the daily operations of a sustainable farm, including the equipment used such as tractors, feeders, and other essential tools for livestock care.

  • Participate in a roping demonstration, where you’ll see firsthand the skills needed on a working farm.

  • Enjoy a fun and scenic hay wagon ride that lets you take in the beauty of the farm’s landscape.

  • Play and explore in a farm-themed playground that promises to be a hit with the kids!

Our knowledgeable tour guide will explain the journey of raising beef cattle—from birth to market—offering valuable insights into the farming process and its impact on food production.

What to Bring and Wear:
Please dress for the weather as this event will take place rain or shine. We recommend wearing comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear (preferably something you don’t mind getting dirty), as the farm can get muddy or uneven in places.

This is a fantastic opportunity for families to create lasting memories while learning about agriculture in an up-close and engaging way. Don’t miss out on this fun and educational experience!
