STRAWBERRY FIELDS

WHEN: Sunday, June 23, 2026

4:30PM - 6:00PM

WHERE: Dew Fresh Produce 404 375th Avenue NE Stanchfield MN 55080

WHO: Kids + Adults

COST: $10 Per Child

Join us for a one-of-a-kind family adventure at Dew Fresh Produce in Stanchfield, Minnesota!

This hands-on experience is designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and connect kids with the incredible world of agriculture and the outdoors. Each child will receive a small bucket to personalize and decorate before diving into an educational experience led by the knowledgeable staff at Dew Fresh Produce and the Director of Little Wilderness.

Together, we'll explore what it takes to grow healthy, productive berry plants and discuss fascinating topics such as:

- Different species of berries
- Common pests like deer, bears, bugs, and other wildlife
- How temperature affects plant growth
- Planting and harvesting techniques
- The role of fertilizers in crop production
- The many uses for berries, including canning, baking, jams, and even candy!

Participants will also learn the importance of harvesting responsibly. Dew Fresh Produce staff will teach families how to identify ripe berries and explain why it's important to leave berries on the plant when they aren't quite ready yet. Understanding proper harvesting practices helps ensure healthier plants, better future harvests, and even better tasting berries for everyone

Families are welcome to pick berries during the event; however, please note that each family is responsible for bringing any additional buckets or containers they wish to use for collecting berries to take home. Families will also be responsible for paying for any berries they harvest, which will be sold for $3.40 a pound, through Dew Fresh Produce.

This is more than just an educational outing, this event is designed to bring families together! At Little Wilderness, we believe some of life's best memories are made outdoors, and we hope this experience creates opportunities for families to connect, meet others in the community, and build lasting friendships through a shared love of nature.

TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION

Kick off summer with an unforgettable morning on the water! Join Little Wilderness and our experienced boat captains for a fun day of fishing and adventure on the beautiful Pokegama Lake — Pine County’s largest lake, just west of Pine City. This lake is part of the Snake River system and is home to awesome fish like walleye, northern pike, bass, crappie, catfish, and even the mighty muskie. Pokegama covers over 1,500 acres and has plenty of secret fishing spots — from weedy flats to hidden sunken islands where big fish love to hide!

We’ll start the day at the docks of restaurant, Lake Appeil, where you’ll meet our friendly crew and boat captains. After a quick safety check (parents and guardians will sign a waiver before leaving their child with us), we’ll load up the boats and head to where the fish are biting. You’ll learn tips from real anglers, test your fishing skills, and maybe even reel in a trophy-sized catch!

After a few hours on the water, we’ll head back to shore to share stories, show off the big ones, and celebrate with fun prizes and a tasty meal. Every registered youth gets lunch and some cool fishing memories to take home.

Please dress appropriately for the weather, keeping in mind that it is always colder on the water. Youth are required to bring their own Personal Floatation Device and will be wearing it at all times on the boat so please make sure it fits properly. If you do not have one, let us know ahead of time and we will try to accommodate you. If your youth is 16-17 years old please follow MN DNR regulations for license requirements. Get ready for a fun, hands-on adventure into the world of fish and freshwater science!

Education is the key to protecting healthy fisheries and making sure people across Minnesota can continue enjoying the lakes, rivers, and fish we all love for generations to come. And the best way to learn… is by seeing it all up close!

We’re heading to Waterville for a special visit to the Waterville State Fish Hatchery, where kids and their parents will get a behind-the-scenes look at how fish are raised and prepared to be stocked into lakes across Minnesota.

During our private tour, kids will get to:

  • See muskie swimming in tanks or even eggs in the incubation battery depending on the time of year

  • Explore the education room, which features live fish in aquariums along with preserved fish and mammals

  • Learn about the aquatic environment and how fisheries biologists take care of our lakes and rivers

  • Watch a demonstration of how scientists set trap nets in the lake to study fish populations

This is also the perfect opportunity for curious kids to ask questions! Ever wondered:

  • How do fish hatcheries raise baby fish?

  • How do fish get stocked into lakes?

  • How do scientists know how many fish live in a lake?

Our tour guide will be there to answer all the curious questions kids can think of and help them discover just how fascinating fisheries science really is.

If your child loves fishing, animals, science, or just exploring the outdoors, this is going to be an exciting and educational day they won’t forget!
