Bundle up and join us for our first-ever Little Wilderness Squirrel Hunting Contest! When winter boredom starts to set in, there’s no better way to get kids outdoors than a small-game adventure built around independence, teamwork, and time spent together in the woods. This is a self-guided event, not a guided hunt. Each adult + youth team will hunt on their own during legal shooting hours, choosing when and where to hunt in accordance with Minnesota DNR regulations. The goal is simple: get outside together, practice ethical hunting, build confidence in the field, and enjoy a shared outdoor experience.
At the end of the hunting window, all teams will come together as a community for a group weigh-in, where you’ll bring your two largest squirrels to be weighed for a chance at bragging rights, awards, and some seriously fun door prizes. Whether this is your child’s first hunt or they’re already comfortable in the woods, this event is about learning, participation, and connection, not pressure.
How It Works
Teams: One adult (18+) and one youth
Hunting Hours: ½ hour before sunrise to sunset
