Join us and the Rum River Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society for an unforgettable day in the field designed specifically for young hunters! This hands-on hunting experience provides youth with the opportunity to learn about upland bird hunting, conservation, responsible firearm handling, and the traditions that make Minnesota's outdoor heritage so special.
Taking place at the Minnesota DNR Mille Lacs Wildlife Management Area Headquarters in Onamia, this event is open to young hunters who are eager to gain experience pursuing one of Minnesota's most iconic game birds, the ruffed grouse!
Participants will spend the day alongside experienced mentors and volunteers who are passionate about introducing the next generation to ethical hunting practices, wildlife conservation, and safe outdoor recreation. Whether a youth hunter is new to grouse hunting or looking to build upon existing skills, this event offers a welcoming and educational environment focused on learning, confidence-building, and creating lifelong outdoor memories.
The registration fee is $20 per youth hunter, and scholarships are available to ensure every interested young person has the opportunity to participate. A valid Firearms Safety Certification is required for participating hunters.
Space is limited to the first 16 registered youth hunters, so early registration is strongly encouraged. Completed registration forms and payment must be mailed and received by September 4, 2026.
