TRIP DETAILS + INFORMATION
Join us this spring in central Iowa for a hands-on Little Wilderness adventure as we search the timber for whitetail deer antler sheds. Whitetails in this area typically shed their antlers between January and April, and if we’re lucky, we may spot them tucked away beneath leaves on the forest floor.
This experience is designed to be laid-back, slow-paced, and curiosity-driven, making it a perfect outdoor adventure for kids. Even when sheds are scarce, the woods are full of discovery, from animal bones and interesting rocks to tiny creatures and hidden natural treasures along the way. The journey itself is just as exciting as what we find. All children are welcome, though ages 5 and up are recommended, as we’ll be walking through brush and navigating hills and ravines while exploring the timber. This trip will be coordinated by Kim Creps of Chelsea, Iowa. Kim and her son Hudson have been shed hunting together for several years and are excited to share their passion for whitetail habitat, outdoor exploration, and quality time in nature with other Little Wilderness families.
We’ll meet at Kim’s residence before heading out to walk local private timber for approximately 2–2.5 hours. After our time in the woods, we’ll return to the house where pizza will be provided, giving everyone a chance to eat, relax, and chat about the morning’s discoveries before heading home around 12:30–1:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for kids to slow down, explore the outdoors, and experience the joy of discovery, the heart of the Little Wilderness mission.
